Intergalactic war. Not a good idea apparently. Well, losing isn't anyway. This long suffering has just been hit by a prematurely detonating Core Detonation device. Looks like they're in for a rough time anyway. I might create a proper story behind this sometime later on.

Infos: Made in Photoshop CS3 over approx. 6 hours. Final PSD filesize of 69MB. A variety of my only photographs used as textures, otherwise it's all brushwork and technique. Inspiration, `alyn of course as well as Greg Martin's work. This marks the first piece of work in a series I am creating for close friends.

Edit: Add about an hour to the production time. It was suggested that clouds were added, and so I obliged. I think that adding a new texture to the rim of the explosion has also made it appear more realistic. It's finally dawning on me that with pieces this complex you will never be perfectly happy with the outcome!

I have promised you a critique comment, `cause you asked me. Next time, I think that you should try to work more at the background, maybe not color it, just try to create a more depth in field to the picture. A smaller planet somewhere ... good luck. P.S Do you use a graphic tablet?

Thank you for the ideas :) I do have a graphics tablet but did not use it for this piece. I agree about the scaling, it needs something more to bring it alive. Thank you for the advice.

Thank you :) The original actually looks a bit neater, when I shrunk it down to submit to dA it went all blurry! So I had to sharpen it a bit. I tried to dodge out the planet from the sharpening though, but theres only so much one can do. I'm glad you like it, I might bring out the 1600x1200 wallpaper once I have some other images to stick in the pack :aww: Thank you for the favourite!
